“We Are Family”: Shonda + Rick

See that photo up there? See how happy they are? That’s exactly how I feel every time I look at that photo. For the record, that just might be my favorite wedding photos that I’ve taken so far and that’s big for me because I think I’m the hardest on myself, so it’s great to look at one of my photos and really feel good about it…

So I met Shonda back in December, I think, when she contacted me about her wedding photos. You know how when you meet someone, you just click? Shonda and I clicked for the get go; she had ideas, I had ideas and we were able to get everything in. I shot her bridal portraits back in February (Click HERE) and she was an absolute dream to work with. Also being my first wedding of the season, I was pumped and nervous, with good reason, because this is my first major “wedding season” where I’m actually getting contacted and booked for weddings.

I think one of the things I loved most with this wedding was that I had all the time I needed to take the prep photos. With the weddings I’ve done in the past, I’ve just haven’t been able to relax and really enjoy that part of the job due to scheduling/unforseen circumstances but with Shonda, I found that I was actually enjoying it because I got to take all those cool pictures I had seen other photographers take; got to do stuff with the dress, the shoes etc. Granted I couldn’t capture the guy’s prep photos (scheduling/timing on their part), the brides’ party’s photos came out soooo good, I think they’ll makeup for that. Don’t worry, we’ll get ‘em next time guys!

Also my favorite part of Shonda’s wedding was how family oriented it was. Shonda had a son and Rick had a daughter (who were the best man and maid of honor respectively) and through the ceremony you could just feel the love oozing out through these two families and it really felt like the uniting of two families.

Shonda, I wish you, Rick, Alexis and Malachi nothing but the best! Thanks for being a photographer’s dream!

Enjoy!
